What Is Lane Departure Warning?

When this does happen, it will alert you with visual and audible warnings, so that you can redirect your path. If needed, it can even vibrate your steering wheel. The feature is intended to aid in highway driving, so it typically activates at speeds over 40 mph.

How Does It Work?

The Lane Departure Warning feature uses cameras to monitor your surroundings. The cameras are typically windshield-mounted and located near the rearview mirror. These cameras can detect lane markings on the road as well as your vehicle’s positioning; the feature is designed to detect unintentional drifting, so it will alert you if it senses that you’re veering from your lane without signaling or steering.

What Is Lane-Keep Assist?

In many Mazda models, Lane Departure Warning works in conjunction with the Lane-Keep Assist feature. It’s another lane guidance feature, although it isn’t the same as Lane Departure Warning. As an added precaution, Lane-Keep Assist can subtly adjust your steering if it senses that you’re veering from your lane.
