How Does the 2025 MAZDA CX-70 PHEV Powertrain Work?

What’s a PHEV?

The Mazda CX-70 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), which means it utilizes both gasoline and electric power. It’s equipped with an e-SKYACTIV®-PHEV 2.5-liter engine and a 68-kW electric motor, which combine to generate a total system 323 horsepower and up to 369 lb-ft of torque. The SUV uses electric power when it can, and then switches to gasoline power when necessary.

How Does It Work?

When it’s placed in EV Mode, the Mazda CX-70 PHEV operates using electric power alone. The electric motor is powered by the SUV’s 17.8-kWh battery pack. When your charge is low (or if conditions dictate), your gas engine is employed. In all, the SUV can drive up to 490 miles with the combined gas/electric hybrid powertrain.

How Long Can It Drive on Electric Power?

You can drive up to 26 miles with electric power in the Mazda CX-70 PHEV. With regenerative braking, the SUV can recoup some of the energy lost while braking, helping you maintain your charge. You can also plug it in to charge any time using the standard Level 1 charging cable or with an available Level 2 charger.
